Roxborough Memorial Hospital Recognized for Supporting Organ Donation
Hospital team supported education, awareness through statewide challenge
Philadelphia, PA (October 17, 2024) — Roxborough Memorial Hospital has been honored with a prestigious statewide accolade for its commitment to promoting organ, eye, and tissue donation awareness.
The hospital received a platinum designation as part of The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s (HAP) 2024 Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge.
This annual initiative encourages hospitals across Pennsylvania to enhance awareness of organ, eye, and tissue donation within their facilities and local communities. HAP collaborated with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and two organ procurement organizations—the Center for Organ Recovery & Education and the Gift of Life Donor Program—to facilitate the challenge.
“It is an incredible honor for Roxborough Memorial Hospital to be acknowledged in HAP’s Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge. This distinguished recognition reflects our unwavering dedication to educating and supporting the communities we serve by raising awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation,” stated Shawn Parekh, CEO of Roxborough Memorial Hospital.
Each year, the HAP challenge kicks off in April to coincide with National Donate Life Month. To bolster awareness, the hospital engaged employees, patients, and community members in a range of activities, such as pop-up informational sessions, a flag-raising ceremony, the Gift of Life Donor Dash, and more. The hospital’s initiatives were tracked and evaluated on a scorecard submitted to HAP, which assigns designations of titanium, platinum, gold, silver, or bronze based on performance.
HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings remarked, “We applaud Pennsylvania hospitals and our partners for their outstanding efforts in promoting and supporting organ donation awareness. The impressive participation in the challenge showcases the commitment and passion hospital teams have for enhancing the health of their communities. Increasing the number of organ, eye, and tissue donors is vital for hospital teams to save and improve lives.”
Roxborough Memorial Hospital was among 118 hospitals statewide that took part in this year’s challenge.
