Your Hospital Room
General Information
Upon arriving in your room, you will be shown how to work the various accommodations such as operating your bed, the nurse call bell system, telephone, and the television. If there is anything you do not understand please ask your nurse for assistance.
Your Bed
Your bed is electronically operated. Please keep in mind that your hospital bed is narrower and higher than your bed at home. When the side rails are up, do not attempt to get out of bed by yourself. In that case, please call for assistance.
Calling your Nurse
There is a call bell by your bed and an emergency call bell inside the bathroom. Simply press the nurse call bell when you need assistance. A staff member will answer your call.
Mail and Flowers
Your mail and flowers will be delivered directly to you unless your condition does not permit. Any mail received after your discharge will be forwarded to your home.
Meals
The department of Food and Nutrition Services is committed to serving quality meals. Patient meals are served as follows:
- Breakfast 7:15 a.m. 8:15 a.m.
- Lunch 11:15 a.m. 12:15 p.m.
- Dinner 4:15 p.m. 5:15 p.m.
Each day you will receive a menu on your breakfast tray to select your choices for the following day. Please fill out your menu and keep it until it is collected by a member of the Food and Nutrition staff. Patient visitors may also purchase their own meals directly in the hospital cafeteria and bring them to patient rooms themselves.
Telephone Services
All patient rooms with the exception of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are equipped with a telephone that can be dialed directly. To make a local call (215 and 610 area codes only) from your room phone, dial 9 first and then the complete number. To make calls outside of the 215 and 610 area codes, contact the hospital operator by dialing 0. You will then be connected to an outside operator who will place your call after first determining if you want the call charged collect or to your home telephone bill. To arrange for the best opportunity for you to get the rest that you need while hospitalized, incoming patient calls are withheld between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
