Below are some of the most commonly asked questions, along with their answers, to help provide clarity and guidance.

How many resident positions are available?
We have a total of 9 Internal Medicine resident positions for the upcoming academic year: 6 Categorical positions and 3 Preliminary positions.
Is the program unopposed?
No, Roxborough Memorial Hospital has residencies in Family Medicine, which means the program is not unopposed.
Does your program offer positions outside of the Match?
No, all positions are filled exclusively through the AOA and ACGME Match Programs.
Should one of the three required letters of recommendation come from the Chairman of Medicine?
While a letter from the Chairman of Medicine is not required, it is acceptable. We prefer that your letters of recommendation come from physicians who are well-acquainted with you and your medical education experiences, as they can provide more insightful references.
Must I wait until all documents are available before submitting my application through ERAS?
Applications submitted through ERAS may often be incomplete upon arrival. The Committee will wait until all applications are complete before reviewing them. Please note that you should not expect an immediate response after submitting your application; it may not be reviewed until a later date. You will be contacted if the Committee wishes to schedule an interview.
What does interview day look like?
All interviews are conducted virtually, with some exceptions. Candidates will interview with the Program Director and/or associated residents or faculty members during this process.
What are the intern/resident call responsibilities?
During the intern year, call responsibilities typically range from every 4 to 5 days, with interns handling admissions and General Medicine Floor/Telemetry calls. Short call occurs from 5 PM to 8 PM, while long call lasts from 5 PM to 10 PM. Second and third-year residents participate in a night block system for call, and senior residents take 24-hour calls on weekends.
How much vacation will I have?
Interns are granted 2 weeks of vacation, which must be taken during designated rotations. Second and third-year residents receive 3 weeks of vacation during specified rotations.
Are residents permitted to complete an outside elective?
Yes, residents are allowed to pursue outside electives with prior approval from both the Program Director and the participating site’s Program Director or attending physician.
Are there opportunities for teaching?
Absolutely! Roxborough Memorial Hospital serves as a core rotation site for medical students from the University of New England, Nova Southeastern University (KPCOM), and other osteopathic medical schools. Residents will have the opportunity to work with and teach these students during their rotations.
Where have recent graduates gone on to practice?
We take great pride in the accomplishments of our graduates. Many have accepted fellowship positions in specialties such as Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Geriatrics, Palliative Care, and Critical Care. Additionally, several graduates have taken hospitalist positions in the surrounding area.
Is moonlighting allowed?
Yes, moonlighting is permitted during your third year, provided you obtain prior approval from the Program Director.
